veteran Pop Corn Muncher finally HUNG ONE UP

been munchin pop corn, on this forum, FOR A WHILE

finally pulled the trigger & picked up a SAFARI DELUXE ZIP from a fellow m/c rider, who wanted to downsize

since he wasn't pushing the weigh limit, he felt he could be happy with a smaller hammock & said he wished he could sell the SAFARI, to have the coins to invest in another model

far be it from me to impede his quest...

since i had seen this hammock in service & had an opportunity to inspect it thoroughly, the deal was offered & later taken up

did a coupla trial set-ups at home w/ reasonably good results

picked up a set of skins & reflective tie outs for the fly & some white marine shock cord for the hammock, in hopes that it would be seen in the dark easier(some of my fellow campers have been known to get rather deep in their cups, later in the evenings)

first trip w/ it was this past weekend when i didn't even take my ground based gear along as back up(pretty confident wasn't i?)

packed my stuff on the m/c & headed for Llano, Tx & their city/county park, to meet up w/ a group of m/c campers on a monthly ride/camp-out

nice live oak trees, throughout the park & there were already a couple hammocks hanging, when i got there, along w/ a few tents

picked my trees, hung my hammock & made my camp

the night was perfect for camping w/ temps down around 60 & a light breeze

i put my XPED pad & sleeping bag inside

hung my LOWE'S NAIL APRON, w/ the wind-up flashlight in it, & zippo-guage thermometer from the ridge line

put out a piece of truck tarp material as a thresh-hold/mat & placed the mini-table alongside the KERMIT CHAIR

    CAMP WAS SET UP

after 5hrs on a m/c, a nice BBQ dinner and some feces flinging around the campfire, i packed it in for my 1st night's hang

with only a couple old man's nightly get-ups, the night went quite well, except for that *%^#@* pad slipping down, leaving me with my feet way higher than my head

oh well, i re-situated it each time i got up & then went right back to sleep

during the night, IT RAINED & THE WIND BLEW

i know all about it because my fellow campers told me so...

1st night out was a good one

when i solve the slippage issue, it will get even better

other than some minor tweaking, for style points, i can't really see any need for mods

BTW: the postings w/ pics ARE of great help to those of us in the pondering stages of the game

the links to sources, methods & tricks are much appreciated

PICTURES make the information/opinions much more valid

the PICTURES of the different camp settings were invaluable

did i mention how important the PICTURES are?

many thanks for all the work you folks have put into this forum & to Kodak for all the PICTURES

Sounds like you had a lot of fun. Welcome to the forums!

And yes, pictures are VERY important.
I got in a fight one time with a really big guy, and he said, "I'm going to mop the floor with your face." I said, "You'll be sorry." He said, "Oh, yeah? Why?" I said, "Well, you won't be able to get into the corners very well."

    thanks

TWT/2 Wheeled Texans ( http://www.twtex.com/ ) is a forum of riders originally from the state of Texas but has grown, exponentially

with all the military personnel that comes & goes, along with folks changing jobs, the group now reaches the FAR CORNERS...

the last saturday of the month is reserved for THE PIE RUN, when folks will suit up & ride somewhere in the state to eat PIE @ 11:00 am

there is a splinter group that camps on friday & saturday nights, b4 & after PIE

several in the group hang, though most are ground bound and a few stay in trailers

some cook out, some ride to meals

there is usually a group ride, or 2, on saturday

some folks trailer dual sport bikes though most ride road/street bikes

some of the rides are DS oriented & some are strictly pavement, depending on the locale

earlier this month about 100 of us were in BIG BEND w/ NO TREES

the group we had this last wknd ranged from 15 - 20 each night, w/ well over 50 for lunch on saturday

there were about a 1/2 dozen hanging at one time or another

it's a lot of fun to mix games & toys

    specially when you're retyred...

Congrats on your first hang, William Faulkner. Interesting writing style with no punctuation or capitalization. It works.

veteran Pop Corn Muncher finally HUNG ONE UP

Welcome! I've found that if I hang my foot end about 6" higher than the head end it solves the sliding issue

Welcome to another motocamper! (check out the MotoCampers.com forum too)

Nice find on the Hennessy, and nice Kermit too. Didn't see your bike...

Enjoy the ride and the hang! Ride safe.

that bunch puts out some really good information, too

the KERMIT chair has been on many trips w/o any issues

& kept my 260+# butt off the ground for SEVERAL years

there's no substitute for that kind of quality

    thanks for the flowers, ALL
