    Howdy from MD

Hi, my name is Bryan. I've been lurking for the last week or so and figured that I should register since I just ordered my first hammock, a Hennessy Expedition Zip, actually it is my second if you consider the cheap striped cotton one I use when I car camp in warm weather. I'm not quite hanging yet, I just hit the order submit button a few minutes ago. I got interested when I was googling splicing techniques for my Amsteel Blue winch extension and came across all of these blog posts and videos for whoopie slings and I thought, hmm hammocking looks fun and might come in handy when I ride my bike on the C&O Canal from Cumberland, MD to Washington, D.C. this summer. I'll try this thing out on my camping trip in a couple of weeks and if it works out, it will definitely be coming along on my bike trip. Thanks for the great forum, I have gotten a lot of good info already, but I'm sure that I have a lot to learn still.

    Welcome aboard Bryan!

It's interesting to see how people get here - I hadn't heard the splicing route before, but I can understand how Amsteel and splicing got you here.

Not sure MedicineMan here will drop in but he did the C&O and hung while doing it. There is a trip report out there on it. I'm sure he'd help if you had any questions on it.

I should ask- what were you winching with your Amsteel?

Yeah, talk about doing something on impulse.

I was making an extension for my winch line for my truck in 3/8". I use a hand winch, which can come up a bit short if there aren't any trees close by, so I made an extension for it. It is just a little extra insurance when I have to go offroad, I don't get stuck often, but I like to be prepared.

I have actually ridden the entire C&O before, just not all at once, and never more than I could do in one day, so I have never camped it.

Hi, my name is Darryl and a newbie. Have been in SC and VA hanging for a few days. We are heading out of NY and hopeful to learn of a good place to hang near DC. We are currently car campers. Any suggestions are welcomed. Thanks

    Welcome from another MD'er
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

Welcome from Frederick. I live less the ten minutes from the C & O canal. If you need help with supplies along your journey, lemme know.
