I never used a knot with whoopies -- without looking at it, I don't think I could make a solid guess as to why they would slip, just two vague ones that may or may not be helpful.

I know for some splices, there's a bit of sewing involved to hold the cord in place, but I don't think that's a factor with whoopies.

I remember the whoopies were difficult to move when the bury was stretched all the way out -- you had to scrunch it up a bit to adjust the length...maybe they were still "scrunched," so the tension holding the bury in place wasn't as strong?
The buckles in the video were older one piece buckles that do slip without a half hitch. The newer ones that are the two separate flat triangles usually do not slip. (Not to be confused with the much older round triangles that needed a half hitch)

The cinch buckle in Shug's video is different from the WB "cinch buckle" which is not supposed to required a backup hitch.

When you threaded the whoopie through the end channel on the hammock, you didn't do it backwards did you? You should be threading the fixed eye end through the hammock channel and then back through it's self (Larks Head). Also if you don't milk the bury after adjustment, that can make it slip.

Just did a review of the Ridgerunner with straps and buckles and so far those show no sign of slippage at all. Even with me bouncing in the hammock.
You can see them close up at 8:50 in the video.
As far the whoopie sling it could have been on backwards.

Granted, it was a different style of buckle, but I've also used the two flat triangle cinch buckles (they're still attached to one of my hammocks). They didn't seem to be prone to slipping, but I still preferred the security of the hitch to be sure...and it was never difficult to tie or untie the knot -- 2 seconds at each end to be absolutely positive it couldn't slip was worth it for me.

Nothing wrong with that. Security is a good thing especially when elevated.

One thing on the buckles....do not put in a half hitch! It can cause the webbing to be pulled out of alignment in the buckles. That could cause to much load on to little webbing....very bad for staying airborne through the night.

Ah, hadn't seen that warning back when I got them -- now y'all have me wondering what could have had them slip, unless they threaded the webbing through incorrectly in the first place.

You have to different problems, straps slipping on the buckles, and the whoopies slipping. I can't help with the buckles, as I have never used them, but with the whoopies, I always bury 10", and make sure to "milk" the bury. 6" is a really short bury. I have never gone this short before, but with your results, I would say that is the problem with the whoopies slipping........RR

I never ever had a problem with the Warbonnet flat cinch buckles slipping - but they need to be threaded right. I managed to do it incorrectly once or twice, after having switched out suspensions. Just re-do the threading. The buckles are pretty much bomb-proof when used correctly.
