    ebay material

I was searching ebay thinking maybe I could get a deal on some fabric.

First I saw OES was selling a box of scraps for 33.00. After I considered if this was a worthy purchase I thought... why don't the vendors sell scraps on this forum? And if they do why havent I seen that?

The second thing I saw was someone selling several colors of 1.1 silnylon and they say its actually 1.3 after coating. Is this the common thing? And they are saying 30d, is that lighter then 70d? Is it what most of the vendors use when they sell a tarp made out of silnylon?

I got some scraps. I can send them down for your experimentation. PM me.

1.1 is the original ripstop material, then it gets the sil treatment adding the extra weight. So yea, its normal.

Deniers vary from 7d to 1000d normally. Then there are coatings applied, sil or polyurethane(PU), to give the fabric a water proof or repellent state.
30d is the norm for tarps used here. 70d is a bit heavier.

Cuben is a whole 'nother animal.
Theres some good info in the sticky's on fabric.

Chances are if you ask the vendors about scraps, they'd be glad to sell you what you want. I got some PU coated rip stop from Scott at DIY Gearsupply a good while ago that was from the tail of a roll while I was ordering some other stuff. It was perfect for what I needed. You might get a good deal since they'd likely want to get rid of the stuff taking up space without just throwing it away.

I know exactly how you feel! I just started thread injecting as well, went to the Salvation Army and bought some pillow cases to take apart and experiment on. Then I went to DIY Gear Supply and bought some 'seconds' to play with. Winter is gonna be awfully short this year!

I sold scraps all the time when I was in business. In fact, I gave away lots of them for the cost of the shipping.
