If were just hammocks it would be almost financially bearable (almost... ). I am starting from scratch because I did not do any backpacking growing up. When you factor in gear that you only bought because you were uninformed...THAT is where it added up for me!

I know he's obsessing about beating my ultralight pack on our next trip, so he's trimming the elastic on his underwear as I write this as he's ordering the cuben backpack he's been dreaming about. Going ultralight is what's expensive - hanging with what you have on hand isn't so bad.

I think the only thing I might use the cuber fiber for might be a tarp. I dont know if a hammock would be that comfortable (I have only seen pictures of cuben hammocks). Okay, I am open to anything but I have never even seen the stuff so I dont know!

Pretty much the only stuff I had before all this started for me last year was a bunch of really heavy car camping stuff. I did not even own a pack. Yes, going straight into what some might call Gramweenieville is not as cheap as just heading over to walmart and getting all of my supplies.

I am not obsessing about beating you since I am hardly going to have to even try.

Oh no no no. I am the gram weenie here. I honestly cut the extra length off straps on packs to lose grams.

Well looks like I'm staying home this weekend. Can't find any other souls to go out, and I can't decide on a trail lol.

Go solo WT .... it is a "Billy Jack" thing. You really find out some things about yourself! Toss a coin on the trail choice. Never let a chance to ramble in the Piney Woods Pass By. Life is swift, ride the waves. OK, I will stop now. Just looking forward to a trip report.....

Shug is right... Solo trips really can be some of the most rewarding.
