Got out on the AT for a night this weekend. I hiked roughly four miles (uphill in just over an hour, was pretty proud ) in from Route 40 to Pogo Memorial Campground and stayed for the night then hiked back to 40 in the morning and met my ride. Saturday night was amazing; warm, sunny, lots of birds (and some bugs) moving... It finally felt like Spring. Temps dropped pretty quick with the sun, but I don't think it got much below 35 F. I was easily comfortable with what I brought.
Sunday morning I was up with the sun enjoying BFTH, then packed up and headed out. I had time to kill while waiting for my ride so I found a nice little rock outcropping near Black Rocks and had a little mid-morning siesta... Until the rain started. I made a quick stop at Annapolis Rocks, then headed down to Pine Knob shelter to get out of the rain while I waited for my ride. After an hour or so of bird-watching (the rain seemed to stir them up) I walked out and got my ride... Just in time to head to Grandma's house for some Easter deliciousness.
Superfly up with no doors, in porch mode. Amazing set up, love the view. Notice the Dyneema going off to the left from the smaller tree? I used two pieces running to a downed log since the small tree was a little more springy than I wanted. It worked well.
You can see the 'support lines' a bit better here.
Another shot of those lines. You can just barely make them out going to the big log.
Got a fire going and started on some dinner. Someone had really put some work into making this fire ring comfortable, thanks!
Don't think this one needs a caption.
And the obligatory fire picture.
