    Bamboo would probably work great for this and you could make it double as a pack cover and a gear sling all in one. Ill make one soon and see how it turns out. I make bamboo trekking poles that are under 8oz and they are 5'+. Im sure one that was only 2' or 3' would only be few ounces. That should get the total weight down pretty good.

    First thing comes to mind is what if the support shears off, leaving pointy shards pointing up at one's "core". I guess I'd want to test this carefully before I got all trusty with it.

    I have a feeling a trekking pole will not be a good choice...Side loads and length concern me.

    I would think a simple retainer ring on the support end would prevent such a disaster?

    I have several of these from Fanatic. I use them deer hunting, turkey hunting and camping. I got my first one about 4 years ago.

    In your experiences with this seat, do you believe that the telescoping tube takes a lot of stress in normal use? Could one successfully substitute bamboo/trekking pole/stick for it in order to save weight or $$?
