    Another Pa Hanger

I am a new hanger from south east Pa. I started hanging almost a year ago and I am now getting more time to spend outdoors and improve my hanging technique.

I currently have a WBBB 1.1 double with a Superfly tarp. My current tarps are 20* Incubator and a 20* & 40* Flight Jackets. I am hoping for a 40* Phoenix for Christmas.

I mostly hammock while backpacking. I enjoy my current setup and sleep very well in it but I am looking to reduce my pack weight this coming year so I will be exploring the posts looking for ideas on new items to buy. Just don't tell my wife.

Thanks guys. Bruinfan you you are correct I meant quilts and not tarps.

It may seem like I have been in " the club" for awhile but most of the gear is newer. I started with the hammock about this time last year and tried to use it with a pad and sleeping bag. I was not comfortable with a pad so I took advantage of the Black Friday sale last year for the UQ and continued to use the sleeping bag over the winter. In the spring I stated backpacking again and the sleeping bag was too big and warm for warmer weather so I used 2 poncho liners instead of a TQ. It got down into the 30's and next came the 40* TQ. I just got the 20* TQ for this winters camping. I did not get much of a chance to hang over the summer due to moving but now I am getting back into the saddle.

Welcome to the sanity. There is no better way to backpack on the AT in PA IMHO. Try to make it over to MAHHA in the spring. I went last year for the first time and it was a blast.

    Greetings from Lancaster Co. PA.

I agree, plan to attend the Spring MAHHA @ Pine Grove Furnace. Check the
forums for dates and specifics- 2Q & Zq organize this. I believe there is already a thread. The MAHHA is a great place to meet some fellow hangers and see some tricked out back-country rigs. The Fall MAHHA is this weekend down in WV.

Additionally, look for hangs up at the 501 Shelter on the AT. Occasionally there is a group that will meet up there. If you are going on a hike you can post your plans here on HF and sometimes fellow hangers will join you. I was up on the AT a couple of weekends ago and the tail end of the SOBO Thru Hikers are coming through.

    All the best,

    Another Pa Hanger

Welcome from NJ. Let me know if you want a hiking partner for some weekend backpacking trips. Sometimes short trips are just what the Dr ordered.
