    Scout and Ultralight Backpacker comparison?

Okay, so I bought an unidentified used Hennessy without a tarp. It is a classic bottom entry and lighter fabric than my Expedition. I think it is an Ultralight Backpacker model, but after getting into the specs, I see the Scout is the same dimensions (that is a puzzle too). Without having one to compare side-by-side, is there any way to tell one from another? The one I have is the coyote brown color.

The weights are different, so best thing is to weigh it then compare to the specs to figure out which one you have if you cannot tell the difference between the fabrics.

The weights posted on the web site are for complete kits I think. I did lay it out to compare size with my Expedition and it is about the same. I did note that the side pulls do not have a fabric extension like the Expedition and attach to a large ring on the side.

Yes they are but you can approximate the hammock weight by subtracting the tarp weight. The weight of the scouts is (per the site):

    Rainfly weight: 10.5 oz / 305 g, hammock weight should about 1lb 15.5oz

    backpacker:

    Rainfly weight: 9.4 oz / 265 g, hammock weight should be about 1lb 4.6oz

The site also lists the bags weights, the ones I gave are approx, but the gap is large enough that you should be able to tell.

The side tie outs on a scout should be in the middle, not asym like the explorer, if I remember correctly.

Sometimes the color is not as definitive as one may think, they have sold purple hammocks before. Most-times the materials match up and are the same throughout.

Thanks, Cranky Bear. The weights put it on the Backpacker side of the fence. I appreciate the number crunching.

I have the old non asym (tie outs in the middle) Backpacker UL and it is not the same weight as what's on the site. The old one's are lighter. Mine with the tarp weighs 1.5lbs
