Feather sleeping bag, worth trying to use?

I just got a Buck 703 "down" sleeping bag from a buddy for fixing up his good bag. It's the same one sold on ebay but he picked it up when we were stationed in Korea for even cheaper. I cut her open just a bit to see what the fill actually was. Feathers..... a LITTLE bit of down and mostly feathers. The bag is heavy, poorly designed, and doesn't compress much.

He said that it kept him warm but he is a warm sleeper... I'm not.

Is it even worth trying to use as a TQ or UQ?

How well do feathers actually insulate?

Like I said, it's poorly designed with multiple layers of fabric and unsealed baffles. So it would be quite a task to make it decent.

Is it worth the effort?
What would you do with it?

I looked up a listing on Ebay, as I have never heard of this particular brand. I'm not sure what language the supplemental info in the ad is, but it does have a picture of both down and feathers (but lists fill material as down). Does the hangtag specify what the fill materials are?

I'm just curious, but which side of the bag did you open to sample, top or bottom? I'd think the feathers could be used as fill on the bottom of the bag, much like a feather bed or down pillow with a feather core - being that feathers provide a better "spring" to lay on, but not great insulative properties. If the top layer is all down fill, it would make some kind of sense as a "system". If so, and if the bag is wide enough you could just cut the bottom portion off and use the top section as a TQ.

just had a feather experience & will attempt to avoid them in the future

my old feather pillow cover got old & tired, to the point it was leaking

my wife took the feathers & put them into a double thickness of pillow slip material

the feathers immediately began escaping the fabric & proceeded to poke me, during the night

the hostile nature of feathers in anything less than MATTRESS TICKING is not worthy of any further consideration

just my 2¢ worth on feathers
