    Eno Problems

a Couple weeks ago, I was hiking the famous Knobstone trail in Southern Indiana.
During the night my ENO SN ripped out, and i hit the ground with a pretty loud thud.

I contacted ENO , and will be sending it back to them this weekend to review. only had it for 2 years, sure hope they make it right. I will let everyone know it goes.

where did the rip occur? at an end or down the middle?

happy you were able to walk away from it... time to upgrade for sure.

Thanks for the info. I am also curious where it ripped?

    I've heard this before.
It seems, that I hear this about an ENO every year or two. I don't recall hearing with any regularity about other brands. Even brands that are near identical to the ENO line.

    I'm forced to wonder why?
My ENOs have never given me reason to worry and they tend to get beat around and abused more than my other hammocks due to their relatively low replacement cost.

    Re: Eno Problems

This is most likely due to the sheer number of Enos that are "in the wild". Most of the other brands people on the forums use are not "off the shelf" items.

I've heard of this. A friend was on the AT and noticed a very small nick/tear in his SN. He used duct tape on. Middle of the night it gave way almost the entire length of the hammock. REI took the hammock back. I believe they make a trail repair kit for the ENO

Not to dispute the OP...but he said the Eno hammock in question was 2 yrs old. I think if it were truly defective, it would have ripped much sooner. No. My suspicion is that the OP poked a hole in his ENO without realizing it. A hole that then under wear and tear got bigger and gave way. I just find it hard to believe that a hammock like the ENO just suddenly rips down the middle without some hole or catalyst causing it. Not saying the OP is lying. Just perhaps that he was unaware of the hole or compromise until it gave way and he ended up on the ground with a thud.

My SN ripped without warning last summer dumping me on some rocks.

It was about 3 years old. It was pouring rain and I crawled into it soaking wet and pulled my rainfly over me. I'm 265 pounds and probably weighed more due to water weight.

I also had the hammock set up fairly taut, so I'm sure I violated the rule about sloping it at an angle.

Anyway, I don't blame the manufacturer. It was a scary situation and I thought for awhile that I might have to trigger my emergency beacon, but after about 20 minutes, I felt well enough to gingerly walk down the trail.
