Anyone use mule tape in place of webbing around trees or for sewn in tie outs on tarps and such? What I have is 1600 lb test. 1/2 " wide. Seems like a light weight option.

Generally 1" wide is considered the minimum and standard to protect trees, just FYI.

While lightweight, I would agree its probably not the best option, not much area.
I also use the 1/2" 1600 lb test mule tape. I'm not sure what happened beneath the surface, but last trip out I saw less visible damage to the exterior of the tree by using multiple wraps with my mule tape than my buddy who used a single wrap of 1" wide polyester straps.
I only weigh ~160 lbs, but I like the mule tape. I don't recommend it for everyone, but HYOH.
