A good friend and I sleepily head towards Otter Creek Park after our nightly shift. We enjoyed some hotdog enchilada's by the creek, then got a little bit of hiking in. We didn't do many miles, but I got to finally field test my new trail runners, the Salomon speedcross 3's. So far I'm really liking the switch from my heavy Danner boots. They're lighter on the feet, breathe a heck of a lot better, and being able to slip em on and off like slippers at camp is going to be wonderful on the trail.
I quickly go over the mod I did for my skeeter beeter pro as well as some other new toys I got for me pack. Plenty of lollygaggin' at camp before heading down to put our hot an sweaty feet in the Ohio River. Having been up all the night before, we crash right before the sun sets. My poor buddy was assaulted by a family of raccoons and what appeared to be an asthmatic opossum all night. Apparently one of the younger coons even pulled on his pant legs. I, on the other hand, crashed for about 12 hours. According to my friend, I slept so long and so deep that I had a flock of crows roostin' over the hammock watching me, trying to decide if I was still living or not
Temps got down to 68.9F for the low. I just had my underquilt protector from 2qZq loosely hung and was plenty warm underneath (warm sleeper) I used my 20F Burrow with +2oz overfill the last few hours before the sun rose just loosely draped over me. (I've got a 40F Burrow being made as we speak! )
We have a quick breakfast, with a bit more lollygaggin' before heading out to hunt down some Chinese food. It was a nice little get away from the workin' world for the night and we both definitely needed the breathin' room... Already can't wait to get back out there to do it again.
