    Question about short quilts.

I was debating on getting a short quilt http://www.hammockquilts.com/apps/we...s/show/3289388
for my thru-hike coming up this July-November (maybe December) and I just don't know what to do about it.

Right now I'm just using my Marmot Sawtooth 15* bag and a CCF pad which has been working out great, but I noticed you can get those shorter quilts for relatively great prices. Since it is short, how do you go about keeping the rest of your body warm? (The parts that it doesn't cover?)

Most people bring a short piece of CCF for their lower legs/feet. For many, if your torso is toasty, you don't need as much for the lower part. You can also use the CCF for a sit pad, wind screen, "frame" for your pack, etc...

For me, a short quilt didn't work out so well. Usually, people say you can put a small pad under your legs. My experience is that the small pad won't stay put and you wind up with cold feet. It tends to migrate to underneath me and leaves my feet exposed. I use a double layer hammock and putting a small pad between the layers didn't help. Would like to hear from others on how they keep a short pad where it's supposed to be.

I love a partial UQ. I use a Thermarest Sit-Pad and put it in my Top Quilt footbox so it stays where I want it and I get no condensation.

    Question about short quilts.

I use Shug's method with no problems.

For my 3 season hiking I use a GG Thinlight pad that I have cut down. I put it in a tyvek FedEx mailer and use it as my pack frame, sit pad, etc. Then at night I take it out of the mailer, and use my feet to push it into my TQ, so part of it wraps around the top part of my feet while the other part keeps my legs warm. Seems to work well to about 35*f ish or so.

    Hope this helps.

Best wishes on your thru...What trail AT, PCT, CDT?
I miss my 4.8Lb base weight as a ground dweller...But I sure DON'T MISS the ground.
