When I was looking for my first hammock you could get Hennessy Hammocks off of Amazon, and they were generally a little cheaper than from Hennessy. On the flip side of that you did not have the ability to customize your order like you can when ordering from Hennessy, and you did not get snakeskins with your hammock.

I am 6'1" and a little heavier than you, and liked my explorer enough that I bought a second one when Hennesy ran their October demo sale.

If you want something with a bugnet:

    Grand Trunk Skeeter Beeter
    Mosquito Free Hammock Bliss
Hennessy Explorer Deluxe - Bonus they come with a rain fly
Snake skins are also available on Amazon.

Get a foam pad and a sleeping bag and you are set.

I have to agree on the cottage vendors here BUT to address the challenge:

    hammock: http://www.amazon.com/Double-Nest-Ha...ywords=hammock

upgrade the suspension to this: http://www.amazon.com/Eagles-Nest-Ha...ef=pd_sbs_sg_4

tarp:get the 12ft for more setup options http://www.amazon.com/Kelty-Noahs-Ta...=kelty+tarp+12

    bugnet:http://www.amazon.com/Eagles-Nest-Ou...ywords=bug+net

    topquilt: http://www.amazon.com/Kelty-Coromell...im_sbs_sg_or_6

bottom insulation: I'd make a poncho liner underquilt (search for the diy stuff here designed by the very dude who wrote the ultimate hang) using- http://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Milita...s=poncho+liner

between the PLUQ and teh sleeping bag you should be plenty warm but you can also add if you need: http://www.amazon.com/Coleman-Rest-E...m+sleeping+pad

IMO (and with my lack of experiance ) The skeeter beeter pro on amazon IS a fine choice of hammock TBH. I like the size, not utra light but not unmanageable in size or weight by any means... $60 for hammock and bug net is REALLY not a bad deal, and I have no real complaints about this thing.

I did get the pro over the standard, the standard IIRC is rated at 250lbs, so you may be a little close there... But the standard is smaller too, and I find the bigger hammock more comfortable.
