Anyone own a Mountain Hardwear 35/50°F Down Flip sleeping bag ?

I just saw a Mountain Hardwear 35/50°F Down Flip sleeping bag and was curious about it - seems each of the sides has a different amount of Down and thus temperature rating and you flip it depending on what you need. Not a bad price either. Might make a good top insulation. Anyone?

Re: Anyone own a Mountain Hardwear 35/50°F Down Flip sleeping bag ?

I've seen these. While they are cool on the surface, after thinking about them I wouldn't benefit from the design.

    1. I never go on trips with lows in both the 50s and mid 30s
    2. If its in the 50s I don't want the weight of a 35° bag with me
    3. After going with a quilt, I never see the need to carry the weight of under insulation besides a pad/UQ

This would be OK if weight doesn't matter to you, you like sleeping in a bag, you have a limited budget, or limited space. I still wouldn't call it ideal.

if i didn't already have a new t.q., i'd go for this!. up to this year i used a 30degree bag and found it quite handy. untill it was blown away into the desert. the only draw back is pack size, always an issue for backpacking, which is my focus.

I think i might give this a try - I dont have a TQ yet, and for the price ($110) and weight (under 2 lbs) I figure I could make it work. Maybe even modify it slightly to reduce the pack size and weight a little more. I'll let you know.

I got to test mine out and I like it for a hammock. It was down below 30 and I was still alright with the flip and my alps razor liner (good for keeping pillow). I like tat it can be used as a TQ (zips all the way open), a TQ with foot box, or two separate bags. Add in a UQ and a liner and you have a very adjustable layer system.
