My Mrs likes to camp - camper camping that is. Not sure I'll be able to talk her into trying a backpack! Sounds like the whole family had a good trip!

That's awesome! I started a tradition with with my son when he was 4 or 5, every year for his birthday we go camping. The first couple times were to state parks car camping, then we went on the AT with me carrying everything, last year he got his own pack and now has all his own gear, including his first hammock! This year he'll be thirteen, and our birthday camp is one of the things I really look forward to all year. We're hoping to do a lot more campouts this season, and I'm getting my daughter geared up as well, so congrats on getting the kids out and have fun!

Are your son and daughter holding hands in the last pic? That may be the cutest thing I've seen in a while. Way to go, getting them out there when they're young.

The Shang3 worked out great.... I may not use it in the more humid months as has minimal airflow and even with the dry air this weekend I noticed the top was pretty damp from condensation from all the hot air they expelled. But it is a true three person tent... not a 2 person calling itself a 3.

I wish that was the case... but that was probably my son grabbing my daughter as there was a pretty constant battle who was going to lead the group.

It is soo wonderful to be able to share this with your kids. My single most favorite piece of backpacking gear I own is my son's backpack.

I've had my son out on several trips. My 7 y/o daughter wanted no part of sh*#ing in the woods, but ended up jealous after the last trip. She must have spent some time considering things, about a month later she asked me if she could bring moist wipes along. The three of us will be making a trip in June. I've got no chance getting the wife to join us though.

Looks like a great trip, I have gotten to take my son camping a couple of times and my daughter is itching to go. They both have there own hammocks and some cool weather sleeping gear. Looking forward to taking the whole family out in a few weeks if we can clear our schedule.

I really like your spreader bar pull out on our tarp, can you explain how you set it up a little more?

Thanks, I ordered some of the smallest diam tent poles .340 with tips and made some 12 inch dogbones out of lashit. For this setup I ordered 4 w/insert and 2 w/out. Four tips and 3/16 bungie to tie them together.
I have some knots towards the end of the dogbone (tentside) which allows me to adjust the tension on the tarp/poles by placing the larkshead around the various knots depending on how steap I pitch the walls. works out pretty good. The flat spot on the top of the tarp (where they touch) is minimal so there should be no puddling of water... still tinkering with the different setups.

    Thx,
    qb

QB, next time you have your system up take a couple of close ups of that setup. It sounds very interesting. I may have to do some tinkering, any excuse to put up the hammock and tarp works for me!
