Was great meeting up with everyone out there. And a GREAT trip report, Skygzr!!
I'll get some pics and hopefully post a video later on this trip as well.
This was a good shakedown for some of us to see what we need to work on both gear wise and getting in shape wise.
Good video, better if I was in it
Cant believe how low the lake was, especiallly after all the precip we've had in the past 3 wks..
Ready to for another one.
Well no need for a verbal trip report! Skygzr rocked out the best report ever with his video.
Skygzr, Thanks for the Video!
One thing everyone should know though... This trip was themed as the
"That's what she said"
Hang
The tale to tell is one of a true group effort. We had a Hanger with us that has never hiked or packed out a bag before. So he came in with about 50 pounds on his back and learned fast how out of shape he was in. He had a rough go of it to camp one but made it at last.
Day two was the real breaker for him. Fatigue set in and he was not making it very well. The plan to move back to the Parking lot and get a car to pick him up came from a few reasons.
1) There was a possible nasty storm moving in Sunday morning - Closer to the cars
2) The Hiker that was hurting, would have had a heck of a time hiking out the 3.5 miles to the car on Sunday with or without rain.
3) I am sure there was a third but I have forgotten it
So two went for trucks while two stayed to wait for the stragglers. Once they arrived we packed gear up to the road (Shamen left his pack and we expected to carry gear for the Member that was having trouble)
We waited for the short buss to come pick us special people up and take us back to the parking lot. From there we hiked a 1/4 mile in to camp and had a good time. Might have been some beer involved at this point even (Thanks Fuhgawee)
I won't point anyone out here (Except Owl) but thanks to Owl for sticking with that person who was having trouble.
Even with Hiccups, the Hike and Hang was a success. It was nice to see a group come together for the greater good. Team Work in Action.
Thanks to RamenShamen for playing it smart and not making this a big hike, we could have had real problems deep on the trail. A group is a group when they think collectively for the good of the members in it.
These Midwest Hangs in the Kansas City Area would not be the same with out the Usual Suspects that were there, thanks for coming and having a good time.
I got to thank Skygzr as well. He gave me so many ideas and good advise. My load that trip was under 30 pounds. I shed some fat when I got home. My base load now weights in at 12 pounds (Had some gear changes too). I now have options to go very light. Despite the many videos from Shug, I was never able to set anything in motion like I did seeing it with my own eyes.
Last of all I want to thank Hoot... that guy is crazy and he did not dance around the fire hooting like an owl naked this time.
Thanks for the video, Skygzr! It sure looked like a very nice, relaxed weekend getaway. I’m more relaxed after just watching the trip report video!
you are right- I am in this one too much! and the Strawberry Rhubarb pie deserved a video- Thanks

Thanks very much Hoot- yes it was a recurring theme for sure- I had some more commentary but I edited it out, as I certainly have had my share of issues on the trail... I still think it was a good time for all in the end.
Thanks Brucie- Unfortunately the only follow up is not as relaxing as I am covered in chigger bites- can't believe the bugs were out this early in Kansas, but it did get to 85 on Saturday

Skys got it down to a science. Monday back at work I'm weighing stuff on the postage meter ( coworkers questioning ) and crossing off some gear.
I gotta say I'm really impressed with the KC group. To see a group strangers get together, hike and adapt to what ever happens and have a great
time in the process. Thats what its all about.
