winter silnylon tarp advice

thanks guys for the info i just happened to get a 35' round parachute going to practice making some double sided bags first plus some others. just to get the feel of the slippery nylon.

now question should i do the ridgeline first then the cat cuts or cat cuts first then sew the ridgeline.

pray for me boys, the wife says she is abandning ship and hiding upstairs while i do this. lol

One good way to get rid of her i should do this more often, thats it geardivorce my new word.

I suggest doing the ridgeline seam first. In case something disastrous happens and you need to cut the seam out, you still have the full width of fabric to work with.

That is exactly what I did. Then cut out the cat cuts. Just remember that by doing a winter tarp you will have 27' folded down to 13.5' of material, that is hungry for space. By doing the ridge line first you help to tame that much material.

Yep, I'll +1 that! Plus, once the seam is done it is eaaier to cut both side exactly the same.

I found the seam on the diy gear supply website really difficult to do without it going all wrinkly and uneven so I used a flat felled seam instead and it came out pretty good.

Good Luck, slow and steady is the best advice for first time. We cut fabric complete including cat cut, you can allow for flat feld seam roll so cat cuts line up. Install all guy reinforcement, panel pull outs, and hem/GG bind edge as much as possible before sewing ridge line together. Much easier working with half the tarp doing this. Sew ridge line add ridge line reinforcement pullouts finish hemming or GG binding then sew guys out on. Seam seal and your done....

it's actually done i decided to go with a rectangle tarp 10x12 with 20 tieouts, the corners are reinforced with white ripstop and tieouts are grossgrain. i need to seal the ridgeline and that but it's raining today will post pics soon.
