    Harbor Freight 7'4"x9'6" Tarp

Hey everyone I am finally about to go on my first overnighter next weekend but I don't have a tarp yet. I think I want to go with a superfly but time and money won't allow it for next weekend. What are your thoughts on this tarp for a night. It's on sale this weekend for $3.99 Will it provide enough coverage for a trek light double? Thanks in advance!

I use the same tarp (camo) and it works just fine. If you're expecting rain, get it close to the ground.

They also have an 11'4"x9'4" in camo for $9.99. I am going to go with the camo in either size. $6.99 vs. $9.99. I'm not using this for backpacking right now so the weight gain wouldn't matter much. What say ye hammock forums? Which one should I get??

If weight is not a concern and you want a bigger side wall for rain protection then get the larger tarp and hang it in rectangle mode. that gives you a little over 4'5" for a side wall from top to ground, that is 11' 4" long.

Go with the bigger size IMO.

I hang my 8x10 in a diamond config. If you get the bigger tarp, consider tie out points. The grommets on the tarp will not be in the middle, so you may want to add a couple of grommets so you can get your ridgeline centered.

I have been through some pretty decent storms with the 8x10 and have felt mist blown in from the wind. A bigger tarp can be set up to have "doors" which can be closed that may block out most of that spray.

I understand it may not matter in your case, but my 8x10 rolls up to about the size of a 1 quart Nalgene bottle.

I may get both sizes and play around with it next weekend. If the smaller one rolls up to the size of a Nalgene it would work out really good for motorcycle camping.
