Lightbulb My very first DIY - Bug Netting

Okay, first of a little background. I love DIY and there isn't much that I won't tackle. As for creating something with a sewing machine, well that's new to me. I know how to sew in general terms and have fixed things but 'taint created anything especially with such an unforgiving as NoSeeUm.

I'm almost done so I plan on posting pix and comments hopefully tonight and tomorrow since I will be putting it to use this weekend.

I started off with these awesome plans but have made my changes.

    Stay tuned!

It's made me sweat and almost made me cuss but it's almost done.

First off y'all will have to forgive me for lack of some of the terminology. Also it'll make more sense of what I've done once you see the pictures.

I used the gross grain to sew the full length of the top so it can rest on my ridgeline. I attached loops on the ends which I will attached shock cord with a diamond knot. The knot itself will go to a prussik knot for adjustment and tension.

The sides have about 12" of velcro and the whole bottom is sewn shut.

Between tonight and tomorrow night I'll attach the 36" zipper horizontally. I did notice last night that it's not a double sided zipper so I'll need to make sure that the zipper pull is on the inside. Makes it harder to break into my tent.....

Okay, so I'll get some pix up soon!

What is the size of the zipper? If it is a #5 coil zipper I can send you an extra double zipper pull.

Re: My very first DIY - Bug Netting

Zipper pulls are cheap, fro. The right source..
Diy gear supply has them for something like $0.25...

I found that getting used to the "personality" of your machine is the key to a project... bugnet is a good one to cut your teeth on...

I have seen so.e cool zipper setups. Mi e as just horizontal but the really nice setups were curves... ut would make getting in and out a lot easier... heck, I bet you could just sew the zipper down and then cut the net! Bugnet will not fray....

Looking forward to seeing your results.
I am exactly like you and have all the materials in hand, just need to introduce myself to our sewing machine (I don't believe we had met yet).

    John,

You must have been reading my mind that exactly what I'm going to do. Sew the zipper then just cut the netting.

I guess I should do that before I sew up the bottom or I'd be in a pickle or ...... learning opportunity.

    Thanks!
