Anyone know anything about Shelwotee Hammocks. http://sheltoweehammockcompany.com/
Those insulated hammocks look intriguing. But only a 225 # weight limit?

Wow! I've never heard of these guys, but I take it they are pretty new since they haven't announced any prices yet. I will be curious to see what their prices will be. Thanks for the link!

For those not interested in link-clickery, it looks like they're gonna run about $250ish (depending on the features you get), and the dude who makes 'em hopes to be live with them by summertime.

Of note from that conversation:

a 20° hammock with 11oz of 800 down, would retail around $250, weigh in at 35oz and include a 22"x22" bishop bag stuff sack that can be compressed to the size of a football.

there is still lots of work to do with the site and my product line, but hopefully things can launch this summer. I'm making these hammocks and accessories by hand, myself, and i want an inventory before i launch.

The big drawback here (that I can see) is that it boils down to a two or three season hammock. Here in South Carolina during the spring and summer, we go bottomless (IE: no underquilt) if we have a double-layer hammock (single-layer hammocks can get bit through, so you still need a small underquilt depending on your bug net solution). I much prefer the idea of a modular system (right now I use a DIY tablecloth hammock and an Arrowhead Equipment New River underquilt) that I can customize for year-round hammocking than a season-specific hammock.
On the other hand, I can absolutely see the draw to a system like this one in that come those cold fall nights and winter months, this system would be considerably less to carry and set up than all the components for a modular system.

Maybe just the lack of fiddle factor and having to attach the quilt?

I would be curious to know if the insulation goes all the way up the sides

It's a neat idea, but doesn't provide a lot of options. Didn't someone make a green cuben fiber hammock like this a while back?

Weight savings is possible, but the real advantage is not needing to spend time tweaking your UQ suspension and then get up in the middle of the night to do it some more. Insulated hammocks are not perfect, but overall IMO they are better than underquilts. YMMV, of course.
