    Thumbs up First Hang

First, I want to say thanks to everyone here. This place is great!

Onto the hang. I wasn't sure that I was going to be comfortable in the hammock so I made certain I was very tired before crashing for the night. I hiked the Wildcat Hollow Trail in the Wayne NF (15+ miles with off trail excursions) on Saturday carrying a 30lb. load (crazy I know) and tired I was when finished. It took me 20-25 min. to setup my hammock and tarp and probably another 10 min. or so of fiddling with my sleeping pad and I was set. Climbed into the hammock about 10pm and didn't wake until 5am (sleeping in for me). The first time I've slept thru the night in many years. It did rain thru much of the day & night but all in all a fabulous trip.

I'll not be sleeping on the ground again.

Congrats on the first hang. Those setup times will decrease with time.

Ain't it amazing to sleep that long and wake up not feeling stiff and sore?! Congrats on a great first hang!

It can be so much fun just setting up and fiddling with gear; sounds like a great first hang!

Sounds like a great time. Being exhausted always makes for a good night's sleep for me...the hammock does the same. Together? Yeah...

Just did my first hang as well. I followed some great advise from this forum and bought a Skeeter Beater Pro. It went up quickly and easily, and was very comfortable for a big guy like me. My only issue was forgetting to use bug spray and ended up with gnats inside with me. Still a great time. I will be hanging in Uwharrie next week, and possibly on the AT in June. I can't tell you how much better I feel getting off the ground! Thanks to everyone who contributes to this site.
