Just got back on HF after a long absence and found the TX thread. Wish I could join you, but just now ordered a new hammock and equipment. I've taken my Grand Trunk Nano on trips to experiment with, but I've never used my tarp, etc. I need to figure out all the hanging tricks. I'm truly new at hanging and I am terrible at knots. I'm in Magnolia, TX and plan on doing a hike on the LST Sunday June 9th up near Hidden Lake with a local meet up group so that I can get more familiar with that part of the trail. I also hike with my dog and have wondered how this goes when you are in a hammock. Generally, when ground dwelling, I keep them safe in the tent with me. I wish I could attend the July hang, but its during the Reliant dog show and I help sponsor the flyball tournament there (its a dog racing type of thing). Hopefully, I can catch you during another hang later in the year or when it cools off a bit.

I'm headed out to Hidden Lake on the afternoon of 8 June. I can provide you with any gear you don't have, up to and including a hammock with tarp and bugnet. The old logging road I take to Hidden Lake is about half the distance that Four Notch or the LST takes to get there. We could hike back to the Hunter Camp Sunday morning (which is likely where your group will meet up) and meet your group there, or we could wait and meet them at Hidden Lake.

I hike with Scout The Wonder Dog and he sleeps under the tarp with me. I have a 20 foot long stake out cable that goes around one of the trees.

I can't make it the weekend of June 8th but I am trying to find plp to go this Fri and Sat.
Or even just for a overnighter on Sat.

It would be cool if you and whoever goes with you could carry some extra water and cache it near the lake.

We decided to go to trail head #6 instead. It's a little closer for both of us.

Sorry you didn't get out. I did a quick hang at Double Lake and explored that area of the LSHT Saturday evening and then continued on with a group hike from the Tarkington trailhead this morning before the heavy rains hit. The temperatures were pleasant for TX in June!
