using the silicone spray from the camping section of academy/walmart. Kiwi makes one. I used it on the rain fly to that mamoth tent I posted a pic of a few pages back and it did wonderfully in the downpour. I figure 2 or 3 coats and it should be worth a shot. With the forecast that's being posted. I may have the HH asym that came with my hammock set up as well until i know for sure the homebrew will hold.

That's a good option I haven't thought of. Your tarp looks good, and probably light too

I'm sitting here now breathing the fumes out gassing from my sil attempt. I think I may post a new thread to show the whole operation.

My daughter was taking some of the pictures, so I will have to figure out a better way to build a DIY thread than using tapatalk. I am pleased with the results though.

You mean in a much cooler place in Las Vegas. Las Vegas isn't having any cooler weather than Texas this time of the year.

Las Vegas won't have anything on the fun we will be having this coming weekend.

Really, what's Vegas got that we won't have?

    Food......check.

    Booze....check.

    Gambling.....check.

    Musical entertainment.......check.

    Boobs......check.

Sorry you are going to miss all of the fun.

Just got back from another training session with the dogs. That Lil Bit is one smart cookie, don't take her much learnin at all. Today we went with the trekking poles, and they weren't any problem at all. When I first started using them with Scout he freaked about having something moving between me and him. He'd get skittish and sit down and such. Took a while for him to get used to them, I had to use one pole for a while when on the trail just to keep moving. Lil Bit had no problem with then at all, probably because by this time Scout is used to them and showed her what to do. Got 'em both walking on the left far enough away so the pole is not a problem, and I can use the pole on that side to indicate a direction for them to go.

Scout is still the lead dog, and we don't stop and sniff unless HE want's to stop and sniff.

Lil Bit's pack should be in the mail tomorrow, so tomorrow night we're donning packs for our walk.

    Have fun in Vegas, dude.

Say hi to the blue dudes for me.

There will likley be one more hang like this before the bigun in November, hopefully before they close on trail camping during "deer season".

I am hoping the Trails Coalition will be able to convince the forest authorities that there really isn't any more of a safety issue with hikers or campers during deer season than there is any other time of the year.

For example, I can hike the Lone Star Trails any time in a 24 hour period (example..... before sunrise or after sunset) during deer season,.....stop off trail to cook a meal or just relax, yet I have to be back on the trail before sunset, otherwise it is considered camping.

If I hike the trail early in the morning or late in the afternoon, I will be out at the same time most hunters are. Yet that isn't a safety issue..... only when I will be camping at night, when the hunters can't be there.

How does that make any sense?

It doesn't, and neither does the explanation I was given: making hunters camp in one place makes it easier to check hunting licenses.

    1. People without licenses won't be at the camps. They will be out in the woods hunting illegally. (derp)
    2. People in the woods with guns are hunting. People without guns are hiking or camping. Ask the people with guns for hunting licenses, don't bother asking the guys who don't have guns.

I'm a problem solver is what I am.
