    Vertex Tarp

So I purchased a secondhand (but unused) vertex tarp (newest version, I believe) from a member recently, but only set it up for the first time today. My first impression is wow, how good of a deal did I get!

Now, I'm not expecting rain, or wind, tonight on my practice hang, but it is clear and dry so I expect my insulation to be tested again, so I closed the doors on it (if they are supposed to be doors) and have the doors tied down to the same stake, inches from the ground. I don't know if I'm setting this tarp up right, Clark's website was no help. So I'm wondering if any users here have pictures of their vertex in action I could look at, to maybe help me get the most out of this tarp. Thanks in advance for any pictures and advice that might come my way.

The way I like to set mine up (if expecting bad/severe weather) is to criss cross the end I think the rain or wind will come from (i use seperate stakes to decrease the opening) and leave the other side more open ( using seperate stakes) for entrance and exit. If viewed from above it would have a "V" shape. The last trip I went on this worked great for. The first night was the most intense lighting storm I have experienced, and the second night included hail. When I first started to go to sleep I had one or two drops hit me, so I closed my weather shield on the Clark. Not so much as a drop after that. I think the drops had actually come through a seam as well. Since then, I have gone back over it with a seam sealer, but have not encountered a rainy night.

Same setup overhere Foot end in the wind. And when the weather turns bad? Use the velcro and close the foot end. Extreem weather? Go in cocoon mode and close both sides. And use an anti-stress bungee cord to close the tarp under the hammock in the middle. In the cocoon mode you don't need any stakes if you use the bungee cord.

In case you have to go to the ground? The Vertex can be used with the trekkingpoles to build a shelter.

I use the Clark tie-out cords for tying with the taut-line hitch. Tried many alternatives. But this basic Clark solution works best for me.

    Enjoy the Vertex!

That vertex tarp has three or four sections of velcro on each end, to use to pull the sides together to make it more resistant to wind or blowing rain. Good piece of gear, I have really used and enjoyed mine.

Clark includes the Velcro on their other rain flys, too.

Considering the low cost to the maker and great advantage of this closure to the user, with minimal weight increase too, it is a wonder that the other gear-makers do not stitch the hook and loop tape in their tarps

Lighter and much cheaper than doors, too.

But neither of those last two can be true, because elsewhere Clarks are known to be heavy and overpriced. Except in the Clark Forum.

    Smilies implied.
