    Just joined...from Florida

Seems to bet quite a few of us from Florida recently. Just joined the hangers after tent camping for thirty years. The straw that broke my back..literally..was a few weeks ago camping with the scouts. Last years campout during halloween was wet and rainy, and the new tent I had purchased was definitely not up to the task. So much so that I immediately pitched it as soon as I got home. Saved just the rainfly. Recently purchased two hammocks and am waiting on the polypro straps. My son is excited and can't wait to get them set up....neither can I really. So I'll just soak up the knowledge, ask silly questions, view Shug's videos (gotta love the Shug) a hundred times and hope I can get a third of the knowledge he has. He really makes it entertaining and fun....which is what hanging is all about anyway...right?

Welcome aboard from Lakeland. We have an amazing group of hangers here in Florida. Our season has pretty much ended unless we get a freak cold snap. Continue to perfect your setup and join us in the Fall. Go ahead and mark your calender for the MLK Jr. weekend in Jan. This is our superbowl of hammocking in Florida. You will walk in as stranger but leave as part of the family.
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.

Welcome from South Florida. About 11 of us were hiking and hanging in Central Florida last weekend.

Welcome from the Space Coast as well. Camping gear is an addiction that nobody goes to meetings for. My gear pile is pretty tall with lots of "good intentions" and "it was on sale" items so you're welcome to try out some. Hammocks are definitely the way to go here in FL. Our local scout troop looked at me like I had an extra eye the first time I brought my setup on a campout about 4 years ago. Now the only folks not hanging are a few parents that occasionally come along and that's all they do is ask about the hammocks after the first night on the ground.
