this item is slightly damaged, but is still completely functional. IF you look in the picture above, you will noticed the elastic loop connected in the back and the front. Basically, mine had that back loop rip and release the elastic. The insulation and shell is completely undamaged and intact. The loop was designed to hold the thing firmly on your head, and IMO is not necessary unless when wearing the thing in high wind. In that case, the balaclava does not really offer enough peripheral vision to be used when hiking anyway. (it was born for sleeping). for sleeping, you probably would not prefer the loop anyway. However, the elastic can still be worn in such away that it secures the balaclava to your head. Also, the damage would probably be a five minute repair for some of you DIY'ers.
