Almost anything can be cleaned if you are careful. I use warm water, either wash by hand or in a front loading machine. I use a very mild soap a very small quanity of the soap. I also rinse carefully. I use down wash to wash my down items, I wash my knit beanies, wool buffs and almost everything. I do not use hot dryers, I do not use harsh chemicals.

Water with some vinegar and let it air dry out works well. Some tent manufactures recommend that for mildew smell.
