Opinions on Hennessy Scout vs Exped A-Sym

My wife's tried out my Hennessy Expedition A-Sym and she likes it and wants to go ahead and give hammocking a try in the weeks to come.

We've been looking at various models and one of the ones we're considering for her use is the Hennessy Scout (with zipper). She's 5'5" and between 120-125 lbs, which should make the Scout a good size for her, but I have a few specific questions about it and am wondering what the benefits and differences are from the standpoint of comfort and practicality when it comes to the Scout vs the Exped A-Sym.

The description says that the Scout is their "original non-asymetrical model with updated features." I'm not sure what this means.
    1) Does it mean it's not well-suited for a diagonal lay?
    2) As the tarp's not asymetrical, does it offer less coverage than the Exped A-sym?

I can see from the specs that the Scout's a bit smaller with a lighter weight rating but, despite that, it's pack weight and size are actually greater (by a bit) than the Exped A-Sym.
    3) Is there some difference in the quality of the fabric, stitching, mesh or zipper?

    4) I'd especially appreciate any input about the comfort and lay of the Scout from anyone who has used both the Scout and the Exped A-Sym.
    5) Are there any practical issues or limitations about using the Scout?

Any feedback or opinions are appreciated.

    Thanks,
    - Martin

    Martin,
I would recommend going with the expedition for her, the scout is an extremely small hammock. I would not get her one, unless she borrows one and tries it for a few nights and likes it. Just to give you an idea,
a couple of weeks ago I was doing a hammock demo at a large scouting event. The models we had out there were the HH scout, expedition, explorer, and safari. I had maybe 3 or 4 people, out of about 200 that got in the hammocks, try out the scout. Of those two were her size they stayed in it maybe a minute apiece. It was way too small for them. They then tried the expedition and loved it.

As for your questions, I can answer from experimenting with them on others:
    1) yes you can get the asemetrical lay but on the scout it won't be that much unless he person is around 5'1" ish.
    2) I haven't pulled out the tarp on the scout so I am not sure.
    3) The scout has a heavier duty fabric because it is intended audience is little kids hence more weight/pack size
    4) I am to big for the scout so I can't answer that one.
    5) not that I can see.

    I hope this helps,
    Chiefstryker.

Thank you ChiefStryker for that answer.

We have decided to order the Expedition and not the Scout.

    Cheers,

Martin I have slept well in my daughters scout. I am 5' 10" 175 lbs. According to the Hennesy website the scout and expedition have the same dimensions.

Sorry just looked the Expedition is 6" wider.

    Thanks for the input Jayson.

She decided on the Expedition last Wednesday and ordered it that morning from MEC (Mountain Equipment Coop) and it arrived today (Monday). Talk about fast shipping. And the shipping was free. And MEC sells it 20 dollars less than direct from Hennessy (though they don't include the snakeskins). Gotta love MEC.

Fingers crossed here that she loves her hammock as much as I do mine. We just got back from a 3-day tenting trip. It was a great trip, but man...what a miserable sleep I had compared to the hammock. We're heading out in our his 'n' hers hammocks in 2 more nights. It's almost black fly season, so we need to get in as many trips as we can before those hungry little she-devils start feeding.

    Cheers,
    - Martin
