Help me get a hammock the wife will accept!

I've currently got two hammocks, a wife, and a porch. Apparently, they don't mix, so something's gotta change.

My ENO-DN (and definitely my Hennessy) "doesn't fit the decor" on our screened porch, so getting it set up out there along with the Adirondack chairs and sofa isn't going to fly. The good news is the wife says she'll approve a hammock on the porch if I can find one that looks nice. Personally, I think the ENO looks nice.

So, my question is, what hammock would you choose that looks nice (going along with teak and cedar furniture on the porch of a brick 1920s home), feels comfortable, and has the shortest possible hanging length? I'd love to know specifics -- links to particular models online, etc.

I'm looking at this as a positive thing -- my wife is telling me I have to invest in a new hammock. That kind of opportunity doesn't come along that often!

Look for a giant Mayan, you can share (mine's like 14' wide) and they come in tons of colors! Super comfy just too heavy for hiking.

Well, I was going to suggest the lite owl from wilderness logics, but then I read shortest hang distance. It's gonna be tough to get a real comfy hammock that's short. That's just my 2 cents though

Any suggestions on where to get a good Mayan? It seems to me I've read in threads here that there are "good" or "authentic" Mayans and then there's cheap stuff. I wouldn't know the difference if it hit me in the head. And, I doubt I'll get a chance to try one out before buying. So, any suggestions on specific models are manufacturers would be great.

How short is that hanging distance? Maybe you could make a tablecloth hammock?

Lots of colors to choose from. I agree with your wife - Every ENO I've seen is ugly.

The BIAS Hiker Lite is an affordable hammock that comes in several different colors. You and an avocado hammock seem meant for each other!

My buddy has a Mayan Hammock from some deep dark place where they eat monkies in South America. While there, he found a family that only makes Mayan Hammocks. This thing is really beautiful, and it's huge. 4 of us fit in this thing. We pulled the hooks out the ceiling. OOOPS!

I'd like to do afternoon naps in it, and although I'm open to taking it up and down on a day-by-day basis, I don't want to have to stealth hang on the porch!

I showed her a Mayan and it looks like that might fly if we find the right color.

My porch is pretty narrow -- only 8-9 feet front to back. It's long, though -- about 23 feet. I figure I'll have to go on the diagonal (I don't see hanging the 23' length...), and the narrower the angle on the short dimension, the better.

The hammocks Shug suggested say they're 14.5 feet hanging length. That might be too long (gotta go measure). But, i just saw these than say 10.5 hanging length. That can't be, can it? http://www.kwhammocks.com/XL_Mayan_H...LOR_p/xlmm.htm

Thanks for all the advice so far. Any other suggestions for Mayan hammocks you've used that you endorse I'd love to hear!

I looked at Shug's link and LOVE those hammocks! I'd steer clear of a string or rope hammock though, a solid material would work much better. And since the wife is into esthetics, maybe one of the cream coloured ones with fringe? I know it's not very masculine, but hey, it's a hammock, who cares, as long as you get to lay in it
