I've been lurking around these posts since I don't drive (and I'm not the type to show up alone knowing no one) but may be able to make this since my dad has gotten really into camping. Ground camping, sadly, he wants to have something between him and animals.

Come on! The more the merrier! This is a very friendly, welcoming group. Ground dwellers are most certainly welcome.

Completely agreed with Ramenshamen! If we hit Woodridge, there's plenty of space for tent camping, and we have a lot of fun out there.

    Come on out and enjoy!

Let me finalize some discussion with momma this weekend, and see about setting a date for this for sure.

Hey all, going to make up my own food with the dehydrator for this one. Anybody got any favorite recipies? Been looking at a lot of Babelfish's stuff and have been warned to reduce amount of spices in his recipies. Anybody got any good ones? Now lets seeee. . . Where did I put that reflective nomex fire suit and asbestos gloves? =-O

I've been keeping it very simple. In fact, yesterday I'd fired up my dehydrator and dried out six big cans of chicken. I'm gonna pick up another big bag of frozen veggies and throw those into the dehydrator tonight.

Other than that, a lot of times I just dehydrate down our leftovers, especially spaghetti.

I also dehydrate and bring along a red sauce that momma makes that's awesome, and taste great reconstituted with Ramen noodles on the trail.

    2 cans tomato soup
    2 cans tomato sauce
1 can italian style diced tomatos
    2lbs very lean hamburger/ground beef
chopped onion, green pepper, celery, and mushrooms as you like
salt/pepper/garlic as you like as well

brown the hamburger with the chopped veggies, drain, add in sauce/soup/maters, cook until its a good consistency

To dehydrate, spread it out on the fruit rollup trays and dehydrate until it's got a leathery consistency, flipping it over if needed.

Cut it up and store as normal for dehydrated foods. Rehydration can take a bit of practice, but use less water than you think.

I also have to blame the KC area hanging folks for me now being forced to spend an inordinate amount...

...my down underquilt and lazy slug tubes should ship tomorrow!

Perhaps now I'll have a bit lighter pack, and not be the last person packed out! LOL!

Sorry for not doing much to actively plan this one out. Prepping for a trip at the end of May to see Weasel when he graduates BCT. Will be spending a night or two at my brother's house as well, which will be camping/hanging as well.

Let's tentatively plan for the weekend of the 14th-16th. Hoot, Ramen, Skygzr & Otter...others?
