One thing you have to think about is how tired you are when you head to sleep. when I camp, I get up more than when I hike.

Restless sleeping on a pad is a bad thing due to rolling off it during the night. I use to feel worse is the AM when I slept on the ground.

It's also nice to sleep with your feet raised a little to let the blood flow out after a long day of hiking.

I also had to kind of get used to sleeping in a hammock. It was comfy and I slept well when I did sleep but I would wake up occasionally. I also had the same thing with it feeling like I only slept for an hour (although I did get the actual rest....just felt like shorter...hard to describe, i think it's because I don't seem to dream in a hammock so I'm less aware of passing time).

I wake up a lot but after awhile you get used to it. I always get up in the morning fully rested.
