    SuperFly Outside pole mod thoughts?

The pole mod intrigues me. I don't really want the weight of some light tent poles, but when the rain is going to be brutal, I really like the extra space that the pullouts can offer. Typically I'll just use the pullout closest to my head on the entry side, but I often don't have much to tie off to where I hang.

I'm considering using trekking poles, as I LOVE porch mode, and most of the dead branches are mossy and rotten 'round here. I could use the trekking poles for this when I'm not in porch mode, but thinking some nano tent poles would be "nicer".

    Pros and cons?

    SuperFly Outside pole mod thoughts?

I just got some Easton Nanolites just for this. The cons I find are Porch mode or tie outs are the only thing they're good for, IMO. lol. But they're sweet otherwise. I may get a chance this weekend to try some diff ideas.. We'll see.

Pick up a walking stick as you get close to camp? I have yet to be unable to find something to tie out to. I take a lot of extra Zing-It and shock cord to make tough spots workable. I've had some close calls, but so far never been skunked.

I use these on my SF

Re-using hiking poles would be great, esp. if you are already caring them... I just worried about the pokey ends.

Should work fine to use trek poles on the outside, Tendertoe actually posted a video on this recently, it's also posted in Grannypats thread about it recently.

The pointy ends are girth hitched in. They aren't going to stab your tarp. Hooked up correctly, they prevent movement in the tarp which also helps ensure tarp safety. All you'll have to do is ad a couple prussics and use an over-the-tarp ridgeline.

You could also consider the method someone posted here, wish I could remember, where the pole is actually put over the top of the tarp pulling the pull outs up. That looked pretty effective and could be used just about anywhere without additional stakes.

Donna here....Unless you are hanging in snowing conditions...a shelf of sorts, for the snow to collect, is created....possibly also with heavy rain.
