    Stone Mountain NC Group Site

My Daughter's class is taking a camping trip at the end of the month and I will be one of the chaperons. I know a few people have been to Stone Mountain before, but I've not seen anything about the group sites. Does anyone know if they are hammock friendly or will I have to hang a good distance from the group. Being too far from the group really isn't an option, so I'm wondering if I'll need to pack extra Vitamin I for those painful nights stuck on the ground.

I tried my google foo and found some pictures from the Triangle Hiking and Outdoors group that went to Stone Mountain at what appears to be a group campsite. Based off of the map and the aerial view, it looks like all of the group sites are in a big field.

The "New" group site is near the regular campground. It has very nice bathhouses and parking area. Take your vitamins or a portable hammock stand...The trees are on the perimeter of the group sites. It's just a wide open area with some tables and grill stands. Nothing like the "Old" group site that was in the woods..

The woods at the edge work fine. My Troop has camped there and most ofus are hanger. The site nearest the parking area is the best for this

Thanks for the info, guys. Apparently we are at the group site beside the bathrooms, no idea if that makes any difference or not. Guess I'll bring the hammock and tarp and hope for the best, and extra Ibuprofen in case of the worst.
