    Hello from Miami Florida

Bought a HH for my very first outing last year in Ocala National Forest. Have been a huge fan of hanging ever since! I returned to ONF a few months later but since then have not been able to go out again.

My most recent plan (for tomorrow!) into Big Cypress was just cancelled due to weather. Apparently my buddies thought the Everglades would be dry.. :-/

Bit of a gear head but I love the idea of modding or building my own gear with a bit of bushcrafting in there for flavor.

Looking for like minded friends nearby to meet up with and hit the trails with.

    Hi there!

Welcome aboard from Lakeland. The season is over for most of us down here but did miss out on a good weekend this weekend. Just walked out and the temps were in the low 60's. Rare for us this time of year. We will be starting up again in the fall and a few of the south Florida hangers join us up here in central Florida. We cool down a little earlier, there's not a lot of hang sites down your way and most importantly we tend to have a good time togeather. Keep an eye open for planning post and try to join us. The Sherpa Hang will be around Veterns Day in the Lake Wales Ridge State Forest and then plan on MLK JR weekend up in Ocala NF for the Annual Florida Hang.
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.

    welcome

Yeah it did get a bit wet today and plenty of tornado warnings as well!!

Plenty of stealth camping along the rivers and islands down here. A lot of guys think camping is over with the heat and all. Just setup with the offshore breeze and your good.

    Welcome from Gainesville!

Like olddog said, the camping season is over for most folks down here. Then again, there're a couple of folks who're crazy and/or stupid enough to hang the whole year 'round... Don't think you have to let the weather dictate your trips unless it's a safety issue. But, also, I'm stupid enough to go out on 100* heat index days, so my opinion may be suspect...

Either way, welcome to the madness!

    Hello from Miami Florida

Well, is there anywhere within 2 hrs or so from Miami where someone may try some primitive camping/ hanging once these rains let up?

The canoe/kayak idea sounds awesome. Any recommendations?

    Links would be most appreciated.

    Thanks for the welcome guys!
