Isheian... Think about getting a scale to weigh your items in grams/ounces. That is the best place to start IMO. There was another thread recently on recommended scales.

Well my packs 8 lbs, and the hammocks close to 5 lbs....
So me thinks they be the first to get lightened. But a scale is a good idea too...

I'm not an ultralight guy and don't really want to be, but simply cutting several ounces and/or pounds off these 2 would be a great start.
    Good luck.

I give up, time to try this ultralight nonsense...

I carried a heavier pack for years. A Gregory Palisades 80. Weighed 7+ lbs. Bought an REI Flash 65 at around 2 lbs. dropped 5 lbs before even packing! Went from a tent to a hammock, and dropped another 8 lbs!

Lopped-off about 13 lbs just with gear selection!

Good luck! My old knees thank me every time I go out now!

Did you just buy that pack? I remember that someone bought a Multicam beauty awhile back, was it you or am I misremembering again?

Last year my cousin and I took 17lbs. out of our food pack by getting rid of our green propane cylinders stove (we switched to alcohol), our large bear rope (we replaced it with paracord plus a repelling ring as a pulley), Aquamira drops (instead of a Saywer gravity bag filter) and cowboy coffee (A 1lbs. savings sans coffee pot). We are hoping to lose another 12lbs. this summer. I got a cheap postal scale at Walmart and it's helped a lot.

8 lbs for an empty pack sounds way high. Start there for sure. As far as the hammock, are you comfortable in it? Does it have the amenities you were looking for? (Included rain fly, bug netting, self-tensioning guy lines...)

If you are happy with your hammock I'd look elsewhere to shave weight.

Of course if you want to upgrade... The sky is the limit.

I unloaded a bunch of weight by planning my meals better and reducing my fuel need. Incidentally this also reduced my water need.

Good luck! Post some pics when you can of your gear.
