    fluff down after filling quilt?

So I am in the process of filling my TQ with down (first time working with down), using the "hand stuff" method. The down is compacted...is there a best way to distribute after sewing up the side? My thought was to shake it, pat it, whatever...just checking to see if there is any other advice. Thanks!
