Hammock Set up on the cheap!

Ok, So i am new to hammock camping and i have been trying to get a set up going very cheap. I am in the process of making a tarp but it wont be done intime for my trip this weekend. So for now this is what i got.

    Hammock - $40
    Hanging System - $25
    Ridge Line - No Cost
Tarp - No Cost (left over rainfly for a tent)

So for under $100 I was able to come up with this.

I have a feeling I am going to FREEZE this weekend as the low is going to be in the 40s but thats not going to turn me away for this new idea of hanging instead of using a tent.

There is no insulation of any kind listed in your gear. If nothing else, find an old sleeping bag to use, and grab a blue CCF pad from WalMart. You don't want to be hammocking without some insulation in the 40's...no sleep to be had.

The angrysparrow is right. Figure out a way to get insulation below you. I've gotten away with a Z-Lite pad at those temperatures. Those are a bit narrow though.

For bottom insulation on the cheap you could maybe get in with FishinFinn about the mylar coated medical cloth stuff.

How about a Thermadrape UQ? That should get you to the 40's.

Nighthawk, Hello from across the bay.
I begin to feel the chill through a blue walmart ccf pad around 50*F. I use a torso length pad with a full length pad for a boost and have been good and warm to 28* with a speer top blanket. I also have these pads in a home made SPE which really makes it all work very well.
Looks like perfect camping weather for us this weekend, enjoy!

Cool, nice to hear from a fellow hanger in the area. I think I might have to go to the storage unit and dig out some old walmart ccf pads.

Cut a couple of sections of that ccf pad about 6 x 20 inches. Use some gorilla tape to join them to your main pad in the same configuration as a segmented pad extender. That'll help a lot.

yo nighthawk this is a tip i learn but it have nothing to do with the hammock.
wear a hat to bed because you lose most heat through you head so abit of head cover will help.
