Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.
Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.
Thoughts and prayers for a family of good people and valued members of this broader family.

"Climb the mountains and get their good tidings.
Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees.
The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy,
while cares will drop away from you like the leaves of Autumn." — John Muir

Three weeks ago I was working an Eric Clapton show in Florida and stepped down from the back of one of our trucks and someone had laid a metal pipe on the ground I didn't see.
I stepped on the pipe and rolled my ankle badly, tearing multiple ligaments. I'm in Washington right now for our yearly Mt Rainier trip and I'm sure you can imagine how sad I am to not be able to do any hiking.
We still visited the mountain twice and drove up to Paradise, but it's not the same. I have never had an ankle injury before (despite playing sports my entire childhood) but go figure it would happen after I get into backpacking.
Adam is a great guy, definitely didn't deserve this misfortune. Hopefully it doesn't mess up his plans too badly.
Here's pics of my ankle the morning after I injured it:

And here's the only photo I got with my hammock this year:

I thought I would have a good 20 years before I'd have to say I lost my father. He collapsed suddenly, and went instantly. Congestive heart failure was completely missed by the health work-up he had 2 weeks ago. He had 3 liters of fluid around his heart, more than they had ever seen.
He was a gentle grump, for those who know what I mean. He was my biggest cheerleader, and had faith in everything I did. His family was his life, and my sister and I were his girls. We had a special bond, of like minds, and the love of fishing. He adored his grandchildren. I have yet to breathe... I feel orphaned....Nothing else seems to matter, except holding my own family as tight as I possibly can.
Stormcrow was home at 4AM, and I've held on to him ever since. Fin is staying here, he's such a source of comfort, a quiet, understanding presence from losing his own father 2 years ago. The thru-hike is indefinitely suspended.... But understand, the following and the encouragement we received from endless stream of HF family and friends was inspirational and motivating, to say the least. Thank you from the bottom of my heart....
