Fixing the floppy flaps on my ENO Doublenest?

I just got my ENO Doublenest which I ordered specifically because I am 6' and wanted something with extra room. I am dissapointed in how "floppy" the extra material on the sides of the Doublenest. I have read where some DN owners have trimmed the extra material off. I don't want to do that but I am wondering if there would be a way to add tension to that material so that it 1) didn't flop over and 2) added more usable width to the hammock.

Has anyone modded their DN to address this? Perhaps by sewing some stretchy trim the the sides which would keep them from flopping over but allow for stretch?

An easy approach would be to simply gather in 2-3 inches of the flaps and sew a few sturdy seams. My concern there would be tears and stress on the fabric when I am in the hammock.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Search for "knotty mod" or "stretch side mod" and you'll come up with what's just about the best solution there is. I used a DoubleNest as my first hammock, and while it was fine, I eventually upgraded to a different one just because it wasn't long enough for me (I'm 6'4").
I used to be a somebody, now I just camp.

You could sew a piece of webbing on the outside and make a loop in the webbing in the middle and add a guy line and stake it out

Perfect! Knotty's stretch side mod is just what I was looking for. I appreciate you taking the time to point me in the right direction.

Fixing the floppy flaps on my ENO Doublenest?

Cannon, I would recommend using some small flat elastic you get at craft stores and just sew it in. I'll snap a pic of mine when I get off work, but basically I sewed a strip of 1/2" grosgrain ribbon on the outer edges and left the ends open. Then I slid the piece of elastic through the channel created and sewed it to the grosgrain/hammock. I and a lot others found there aren't many times you will need to undo this. It is much cleaner just having a small strip of grosgrain compared shock cord with a knot in it and a cord lock. Just my .02

I also sone time ago scored for 20 Latvian lats TTTM single and tried it to hang and lay in it and those sewed on sides are floppy and center piece of fabric without sides are too narrow for me, it does not compare to my good old Brazilian hammock comfort wice at all. Time for cottage hammock?

Thanks. Yes I would be interested to see what you did here. It sounds like an elegant solution. I am guessing that you can't gather the material as tightly as you could with a shock cord?

So... I came up with a "no sew" side stitch mod for my Eno Doublenest.

I am NOT recommending anyone else do this. I just can't sew and I am not very patient so I gave it a shot. Basically I burned two small holes in the hemmed edge of my eno and ran a thin rod through the channel. I attached some stretchy cord to the end of the rod and ran that through the channel. Finally, I attached a couple of cord locks and tied everything off.

Probably not the method if you want a really tight gathered area as I dont know how the hemmed seams will endure that kind of stress. I'll report back after I have actually slept in it. Worst case scenario is I have ruined the hemmed edge but that is no big deal and shouldn't affect the integrity of the hammock.

Sort of. But not exactly. Knotty's mod attaches the cords to grosgrain loops which require sewing. THAT is a better way to go. My version is a shortcut as I can't sew. But it was definitely inspired by Knotty's version which I believe he calls the side stretch mod.
