    Yosemite trip- Is this doable?

I'm planning on doing a 2 day, 1 night trip to Yosemite in a few weeks. I already have my permit, but am looking at doing this:

(Yellow squares are the 1st day, yellow and red the 2nd)

I've never been out there before. I plan on hiking towards Merced Lake from Happy Isles and hanging near/in Echo Valley. I'm having issues finding the trail name that connects the trail from the valley/Merced Lake to the JMT at Echo Valley and am also finding it impossible to find an online map with mileage of those trails. I have a topo coming in the mail this week.

Is this a doable two day trip?

Congrats on getting the permit - those can be hard to come by.

I don't have an answer to your question, but here's a link to a site that I used used I visited Yosemite.. good intel on the trails, and if you post your question there they'll help you out.

I got it back in Dec. The hard part was trying to get a campground for 3 days while I'm out there for a class. Thanks for the link.

    gplg,

We just did this route last September. It is a beautiful trail. We left Happy Isle at about 8am and arrived at Merced Lake at about 4pm. It is about 13.1 mile hike to Merced Lake. Echo Valley to Merced Lake is 2.6 miles. So that would make it a 10.5 mile hike your first day. I do remember that around Echo Valley there being a bridge that goes to Merced Lake. I've attached my pictures of my topo maps of the area. I've also have a video a little bit of that trail. Have a great trip! I'm sure you will see more waterfalls than we did at the end of summer.

Your route is all uphill the first day, including a nearly infinite number of steps to Nevada Falls. Give some thought to taking the bus to Glacier Point, Panorama Trail to Nevada Falls and then on. It'll be a long day either way, though.

I run stairs with 75 lbs for work often. I'm pretty sure I can handle them. Thanks for the input on the bus.

    Awesome! That helps.

Hikingboots - great video! You've inspired me to finish editing my trip last year.
    Yosemite is a fantastic place.

You can easily get an approximate distance (miles and kilometers) for any trail anywhere.

The following link starts Gmap4 and displays a high-res topo map centered on Merced Lake.
    1. Pan the map to the start of your trip
    2. Click Menu ==> Draw and Save
    3. Click 'Continue' to draw a line
    4. Click along the trail

Distance is displayed in the lower right corner.
    Each symbol can be dragged.
Right click any symbol for more options.

Most excellent adventure video, hikingboots! Thanks for bringing back memories and showing me places never yet seen.
