Site 9 - nice open site but you'd probably encroach on another site to use a tree

Site 10 don't think you can make it work

    Site 11 - nope

    Site 12 - nope

    Site 13 - nope

Site 14 - not sure, didn't get the post in the pic, I think this is it, definite maybe

I did not check the "family campground" at Atsion because that place is always slammed just like Godfrey's Bridge or Bodine Field.

Talking to Claire today down at Atsion, Bodine Field is max'd out this weekend, that's 250 campers, ugh.

They are stressing that Lower Forge is a walk in, yes people park close in that lot, but technically you can be towed or potentially vandalized.

Will try to get out to a few more of the Pinebarrens campgrounds in the coming weeks. Was surprised, disappointed at sites had any real shade and hanging trees. We definitely need to scout these up. Great thread idea, thanks.

Re: NJ Pine Barrens - Which New Sites Are Suitable for Hanging

    EDIT
    Wharton State Forst, Goshen Pond

Group Campsite C has many trees good for hanging.
We have 3 hammocks in site 15, could probably squeeze in 1 or 2 more.

Check in at Atsion Ranger Station across from lake.

Group sites A,B,C all have trees for hanging several to many hammocks at once.

Group site A is close to the water pump. Lot's of sun and open space.

Group site B has a privy and is across the small parking lot from the water pump and has more shade than Group site A.

Group site C has a a privy and the most shade of all the group sites. Many hang friendly trees. A short walk to the water pump.

All of the group sites are on the other side of the dirt road from the pond/Mullica River.

Hey you guys stop reserving all the good hanging sites! LOL! I just checked the Goshen Pond campground and all the good hanging sites are reserved. (for this coming weekend) LOL! Thats good though, good to see you all getting out! Now where to squeeze my butt?

Ratdog, and other contributors. Thank you very much for this invaluable post!

I was talking to my friends, making plans, and had decided on Goshen Pond Site 11 or 13. But now I see there are no trees its not looking so favorable !

    Take a group site.

I was staying clear of them but I saw a couple singles in them last weekend so...I guess all is fair.

I'm gonna camp during the week.

And if I ever snag a good site, like 16 or group C, other are always welcome.

Group B is open, snag it.

Just updating, Goshen Pond 12 is suitable for hanging. I moved over some of the thorns (with many pricks, but I was determined) that were hiding the wonderful tree. There is a hanging spot in the back corner near the fire ring.

There were a couple sites where you could hang over the shrubs, just not optimal.

"Clearing", strictly speaking, isn't allowed but for sure I have hung right on the edge and encroached somewhat.
