If you aren't dead set on the BRT there are a couple loop trails with good access to water in NW Arkansas I have hiked. The shores lake to white rock mountain is a good challenging hike with plenty of forest and rugged terrain that matches well with hammock camping.
Arkansas is definitely one of my favorite locations but late summer on the BRT and most of that region gets plenty hot and buggy. Look at it as a non tropical jungle hike haha.
