Thread: UQ attachment?

    UQ attachment?

Hangers, most of what I've seen and read about shows UQs being attached by means of shock cord at the ends and/or sides. I'm curious if anyone has tried fastening the UQ to the sides via buttons, Velcro, or snaps? In my head it would help keep the UQ from sliding around under you, but I'm a noob and there is probably a good reason for not doing it. I've searched around but haven't seen anything to answer why or why not fasten the UQ to the sides...

It has been tried, with varying degrees of success. The stretch of the bungees is helpful or even necessary because a hammock changes shape and size as the occupant moves.

Sgt Rock's been the one with the most information posted here about attaching the UQ directly to the hammock, mostly with Dutch Aluminum Quilt Hooks.

I use Sgt. Rock's quilt hook method with a 30* Leighlo 1/2 UQ and a 50* 1/2 Climashield UQ. It's a really nice system. I like not having those cords above and around your foot area. I'm not sure how well it would work with a heavier UQ though. Maybe someone who has tried it will chime in. His video does a great job of explaining how to set it up. It's easy, just tack four loops onto your hammock in the right places.
