    Diy Silnylon tarp progress

So i got in our silnylon and ended up desiding just on s rectangle tarp for this one with 23 tie outs.

on a cold freezing rain kind of day mywife and i decided to start the tarp, we measured the tarp out to me 12' 2" , we left 2 inches for doing a dbl hem. the silnylon was 65" wide and again we allocated 1 inch for the flat feld seam and another inch for the hem. The silnylon is a nice grey and we are using a 1.9 ripstop that is white for the tieout reenforcements. ( local fabric store only had white ripstop) but it loks good against the grey.

pictures are below for the seams

See those nice and straight lines

Who wants to know the secret trick for a Noob to get perfect lines?

i'll update as more gets completed.....

the trick is painters tape on the edge, then measure in to where you want to make your line, then keep doing that at 1 meter increments then draw a pencil line keep drawing the line on the tape till the end, then start sewing. we have a local shop called the stitch witch she told me that is how they teach to people starting off.

    there you go

    Practice, Practice, Practice

Nice Tip. Probably would have helped me when I first started.

My first stuff sack was a disaster. There wasn't a straight line anywhere.

I still have that sack, though, and use it to keep all my sewing feet in it.

I found that with lots of practice it gets easier. It takes me a lot of mental focus on how much pressure to put on the foot, how fast to feed it through, keeping the hems/seams lined up, and even on how I breathe.

All that being said, I've gotten better at just using the edges of the feet as guides, especially when I am putting in a 2nd row of stitching next to the first. As long as I run the foot edge right on the previous row of stitching, I know that the rows will be evenly spaced.

Ok here are a few pictures i ended up deciding on a rectangle tarp, the finished size is 10.6x12 , i have attached 20 tieouts for maximum options. I am now looking at maybe making some doors from extra silnylon. I used white ripstop as reinforcements.

i placed tape on the areas i was going to sew to help insure str8 sewing lines.

Looks good. You already have doors or at least partial doors. I find you guys out at the first points in from the ends you can fold in the end corners.
