Best tarp for a BIAS hammock?

We get asked about tarps a lot, particularly as they relate to longer hammocks. I'd love to create this as a reference thread to help current and future BIAS hammock owners. Will BIAS hammock owners out there tell us what their favorite tarps are for summer and winter and explain any necessary particulars?

We each have a few tarps, but we certainly don't have a lot of experience given how many options are out there.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Well, the Cadillac of tarps is the HG Cuben Fiber Winter Palace. It has doors, it has a 10 ft 10 inch ridgeline, and it provides ample coverage for any 11 ft. hammock. It's 8.5 ounces.

I estimate a 108" ridgeline, then add 5 inches to each end for the continuous loops. That gives me six inches of coverage on each end of the hammock. It's all good!

The Warbonnet Superfly is roughly the same dimensions, if you are looking at a cheaper alternative.

I use my tadpole on almost all my trips and stay nice and dry. They are pretty reasonably priced and WL ships really quick.

The Superfly is probably one of the best all round tarps if you want 4 season coverage though. It cost a bit more and weighs twice what the tadpole does, but it's a sweet tarp.

Toxaway. Not the CF Caddie, but maybe the Landrover.

Nice and roomy in porch. Can go right into the duff in storm.

I get considerable coverage with a 10ft x6ft (120"x72") cat cut tarp (my DIY)...

    it depends

The tarp I use the most is the zpacks Asymmetrical Diamond. Combined with a sock it is a good winter tarp and gives great field of vision for 3 season.

If I could only own one tarp it would be the AHE Toxaway. It is big enough for people to gather on group trips. The cat cut is just right. A poncho can be used to add doors to one end.

I have used a Superfly, Tadpole, Toxaway, DigDaddy, BMJ, HG Cf with a 12' RL and a few others and they all work great.

The tarp I keep going back to is the Tadpole, (get it with panel pulls). I have been in some nasty weather and have stayed dry. In really bad or winter weather I would pick the HG CF or the Superfly because of the doors.

I have the Hennessy Hex Fly that I got from JRB. 11ft ridgeline and has pockets for the guylines. I use my oversized poncho as doors for 1 side if needed. LOVE MY BIAS Camper!
