DIY UQ & TQ - How Important are Draft Collars?

So I'm looking at all these old sleeping bags and yet to be seam ripped puffer jackets and trying to figure out what will become what and out of the blue I was struck by the idea of draft collars.

I understand the purpose of a draft collar, but do they really make that much of a difference?

EDIT: If it is best to have draft collars, exactly where do they need to be placed?

I'm a big fan of draft collars. I have them on my UQ and they are just at each end. I could see them being a benefit if used on the head end of a TQ.
    Good luck,

I find the draft tunes on my HG Phoenix very important! They eliminate most if not all the fiddling to seal the foot end.

Where are the draft collars placed? They aren't attached directly to the edge are they?

No not right on the edge but just in from the seam. maybe 1/2 an inch or so. Quilt is packed away so cant check for sure but when it lofts up the draft collar puffs out past the end of the quilt. I personally only need it on the foot end.

Imagine the end of the UQ has a drawstring channel to cinch up the ends, the draft collar is sewn on the same line of stitching that creates the channel. So yeah, a half inch to an inch, however deep the drawstring channel is on the end.
Here is a photo from underground quilts the black along the edge is the outer shell and the drawstring channel for the end, the green puffy thing is the draft collar, sewn right to the stitch line for the end channel. Tough to explain, hopefully the picture makes sense.

    Good luck,

The draft collars seem to work really well for me and reduce the amount I have to sinch the ends of my UQ fora nice fit. pretty important imho in keeping heat in.
