    Hammophobia

Hammophobia: (noun) an irrational fear or misunderstanding of those who prefer an alternative sleeping lifestyle. Often rooted in a childhood mishap or general public misconceptions regarding the safety of hammocks. Hammophobia is most commonly expressed in raised eyebrows or disdainful looks directed at their non-ground dwelling acquaintances.

The only known cure for hammophobia is education and experience!

    Thankfully there is a cure.......but it's addictive!

I posted this because I have actually encountered hammophobia. Alot of folks bring up their bad hammock experiences (usually falling out of some shaky backyard hammock as a kid) whenever I talk about hammock camping. Others say "a hammock would be fine for a nap but not overnight!"

Seems to be a common affliction. Perhaps the CDC needs to come out with some type of immunization?

I like the definition for sure.

So does that mean I am a "Hammockolic" If most every wakeing moment I am thinking about my next "hang"? A better spot to hook up, better gear, new suspended experiences etc... Just thinking of the contrary. So much nature, so little time...

    Hammophobia

Am I a tentaphobic? Staring at those strange ground dwellers who refuse to give up the tent even after a sore back every morning on a trip?
