    First time hang question

So we just got back from a very successful trip with our Scouts. Two of us have taken the plunge into hanging and slept very well. I did notice that both of us seemed to end up a lot lower to the ground in the morning. We attributed this to brand new equipment and taking the initial stretch out of it. I have a Skeeter Beeter Pro with slap straps and he had a warbonnet setup. Is there anything we should try differently? We set up everything according to what we had learned from all of you on here and had seen in person.

    Thanks,

    Jason

Slap straps stretch and will continue to stretch, especially when the humidity or rain approaches (don't ask me how I know hahaha).

ENO's Atlas straps do not stretch noticeably. However; I've ordered straps from a few of our HF vendors and much prefer them to the Atlas straps.

(tip: marlin spike hitch is dead-simple to learn.). Also, I usually use a Nano 23 carabiner instead of a toggle; then attach a whoopie sling (or UCR) to that biner.

Ditto on ditching the nylon slap straps that stretch. Even ENO seems to think they're crap, since they've now come out with poly webbing in the Atlas straps.

Personally, I don't think much of any of their straps - too heavy and expensive. Get some from strapworks.com. They're cheaper and you can use the MSH, as suggested.

The slap straps are going to stretch. They're junk. I'd invest in a new suspension system asap.

As for the warbonnet system, what type of suspension are they using, adjustable webbing or the rope suspension?

I've never had a problem with the WBBB slipping with the stock straps

not sure why the WBBB would slip?? I know they say you dont need the back up knot on the new cinch buckles, but it might be worth a shot?

Neither have I and I've own/ed three WB hammocks. No slipping, no stretching.

edit: only fair to mention these are all less than 1yr old.

I have a ton of 1" tubular webbing. How would this work with buckles instead? We use it all the time for anchor straps with no problem.

I've used the 1" Mil-Spec tubular webbing found at REI in the climbing gear section- works great - stretches minimally. Just tied a water knot into one end to make a loop. I used a marlin spike hitch (around a Nano23 biner) to attach the hammock to using whoopie slings.

I eventually replaced it with lighter, less bulky tree straps like those sold by our HF vendors.

The buckles could work (assuming they are rated high enough = climbing rated) if they fit your webbing and if your webbing does not stretch.

Check the static loads needed using the hammock hang calculator - loads climb rapidly when hang angles are less than 30*

I figure that the tubular webbing will stretch a ton less than the slap straps that I used. I am also very familiar with loads, tech rescue rope work, the webbing will not be a strength issue. One inch tubular webbing has a mbs around 4000# depending on the manufacturer.
